Police say Bogdan Mychajlyszyn was driving his 2007 Dodge van eastbound on the westbound Sunrise Highway service road when his vehicle struck a westbound 1998 Mazda.
Mychajlyszyn reportedly continued to travel eastbound on the service road between Straight Path Road and Little East Neck Road.
Officers responded to 911 calls and located the vehicle, which was traveling at a reduced rate of speed on westbound Sunrise Highway. Mychajlyszyn had reversed course and entered the highway traveling in the right direction.
Mychajlyszyn, 43, was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
