He's set to be arraigned on a grand jury indictment in Riverhead.
Police say they arrested 33-year-old Ernesto Suarez on December 18 when he fled the scene of a purse snatching in the Kohl's Department Store in Deer Park in a stolen car.
Suarez struck a police car and telephone pole on Union Boulevard and was arrested.
The defendant is also the prime suspect in purse snatchings that occurred from December 4th through 18th in Bay Shore at the Southside Shopping Mall and the Target Shopping Center, the Macy's shopping center parking lot in Commack, the Pier One Shopping Center in Bohemia and other locations.
