Fire burns through roof of New Jersey motel

SOUTH BRUNSWICK

Heavy flames broke out at the Super 8 motel on Route 46 just after 7 a.m. and quickly spread to several rooms on the second floor.

Authorities say a motel guest, two firefighters and two police officers suffered injuries.

It took firefighters about an hour to get the fire under control.

One guest suffered burns, authorities told The Record of Woodland Park.

Police evacuated the building - and two officers who had to jump from the second floor were treated for smoke inhalation.

One firefighter slipped and another was treated for exhaustion.

Authorities were not sure how severe the injuries were.

Remaining guests were moved to a nearby hotel.

At least four motel rooms were damaged by the fire.

Two lanes closed on westbound Route 46 as firefighters battled the flames.
