Soldier from New Jersey killed in Afghanistan

BORDENTOWN

Family members tell The Star-Ledger of Newark that 23-year-old Army Pfc. Benjamin Moore of Bordentown was killed by an improvised explosive device. The family was notified of the death Wednesday.

Further details were not disclosed, and the Department of Defense had not confirmed Moore's death as of Thursday night.

Moore was a 2006 graduate of Bordentown Regional High School and was a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician with the Hope Hose Fire Co. in his hometown.

He was assigned to a unit home-based at Fort Drum, N.Y.

Moore's father, Patrick, said his son was deployed to Afghanistan in April 2010 and had spent the recent Christmas holiday with his family.
