Police say the man attacked a 19 year old woman near 26th Avenue in Astoria just after midnight on Thursday.
The man pushed her to the ground, sexually assaulted her and fled with her purse, investigators said.
The victim was brought to an area hospital where she was treated and released.
The suspect is described as Hispanic, 18 to 20 years old, five foot seven, weighing about 150 pounds.
He was wearing a blue North Face type wind breaker, dark pants and dark sneakers.
