The trial of a former Southampton town supervisor accused of drunken driving is scheduled to open in Riverhead Town Justice Court.

The trial of Linda Kabot was moved to the neighboring town to avoid a conflict of interest. Opening statements are scheduled for Monday morning.

Kabot was arrested on Labor Day weekend 2009 in Westhampton Beach. She has pleaded not guilty to DWI, failure to stop at a stop sign and other offenses.

Kabot was in the middle of a re-election campaign when she was arrested. She subsequently lost. Her attorney has suggested she was the victim of a set-up.
