Vigil held for 3 victims of NJ crash

TOMS RIVER, NJ

For now, authorities are ruling the crash an accident.

They say the 2011 Hyundai Accent was obviously speeding.

It hit an elementary school so hard that it crashed through a steel reinforced brick wall.

The impact left a 6-by-6-foot hole in the wall adjacent to the school's media room, said Michael Mohel, deputy chief of the Ocean County prosecutor's office.

Killed in the crash were driver Matthew Budesa, of Pine Beach, and front-seat passenger Kimberly VanGorden, of Beachwood, both 20, along with Matthew Witzgall, of Toms River, who was 21.

None of the victims was wearing a seat belt.

All sustained multiple traumatic injuries, Mohel said.

A source told Eyewitness News that a small amount of prescription pills were found in the car.

But it is not clear if they had anything to do with the accident.

The prosecutor's office is waiting for toxicology reports and the results of tests performed on the car.
