Homes with unshoveled driveways burglarized

YONKERS, N.Y.

Police say homes there with no evidence of snow removal are easy targets.

It's not hard to see how the suspect or suspects got in, breaking through glass doors or garage windows along Nimitz Road and Nimitz Place in Yonkers.

The Khourys returned from their vacation last week to find their home broken into.

At least four houses in the neighborhood were broken into.

Police believe the homes targeted were those with unshoveled driveways.

Even Tuesday, some were still covered with several inches of snow.

Police think all of the break-ins occurred on the same day but have been reported at different times, as homeowners check in on their property.

At least three of the houses are usually rented out, but are currently without tenants.

Because a number of houses were vacant, the suspects haven't made off with much.

So far they've gotten a computer and flat screen TV, but residents are still on edge.

"We have an alarm, but it's still scary," said Kamil Khoury, a homeowner.

Police have stepped up patrols in the area and are urging homeowners to maintain their property as they search for suspects.
