NYC case dropped in diplomat daughter's fatal fall

NEW YORK

Manhattan prosecutors said Ilan Nassimi's underage guests apparently drank before getting to his apartment Aug. 27. While there, Nicole John, a 17-year-old whose father was then ambassador to Thailand, plummeted 22 stories after going out on a window ledge.

Nassimi's lawyer Evan L. Lipton said Tuesday's dismissal confirms that there was never any evidence that John had been drinking at his apartment.

Nassimi, who is in his 20s, faced charges of unlawful dealing with a minor and procuring alcohol for an underage person.

John's father, Eric John, has since left his post as U.S. ambassador to Thailand.
