Some landlords in New Jersey may soon be able to opt out of rent control.

Council members in Bayonne introduced the ordinance changes during a meeting Wednesday night.

Under the proposed change, landlords would be able to avoid rent control rules if they make improvements to their property.

Rent control would still continue for disabled people, senior citizens, and low-income families.
