It's the first winter since New Jersey made failing to clear snow off of cars a fineable offense.

By the end of January, police had issued more than 1,800 citations under the new law.

Fines for failing to clean snow or ice off a vehicle generally range from $25 to $75.

But the fine can go up to $1,000 if there are injuries to other people or damage to other vehicles.
