Fighting over the cuts

February 23, 2011

With Libya, where anti-government demonstrators are continuing to challenge Moammar Gadhafi, and where Gadhafi is continuing to kill his own people? Where there are reports that a brigade of Gadhafi soldiers is now moving toward oil productions fields to blow them up? And where all foreign media in Libya will reportedly soon be declared outlaws?

With Pres. Obama's long-delayed but bewildering decision, in terms of timing, to no longer have his Justice Dept. defend the "Defense of Marriage Act?"

With the oh-now-we-get-it revelations about why the President didn't push for a public option in his health care reform package - given that so many Democrats, including two of Obama's top advisors, made a ton of money consulting with health care companies?

With New York Knicks fans, who tonight see if all the hoopla is real with the blockbuster - and team depleting - deal that brought superstar Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks?

With our Nina Pineda and 7 On Your Side, who finds people in our area who have lots of unclaimed money with the state - and don't know it? (Full disclosure: I was one of those peeps. Last year a colleague here discovered I had a check - for an undisclosed amount - just sitting in Albany. Turns out, I had some stock in a company that bought out their shareholders, and they sent the check to an address I hadn't lived at for 15 years.)

Or with the story of the 23-year-old man - with a pregnant 18-year-old girlfriend, who also happens to be the mother of his 5 year child (which means she was 13 when she had the baby) - who brought scores of animals to a home on Long Island, having them live in deplorable conditions?

Lots of news to cover. And we plan to cover all of it, tonight at 11.

We'll also have any breaking news of the night, plus Lee Goldberg's AccuWeather forecast, and Rob Powers, in Florida for spring training, with the night's sports. I hope you can join Liz Cho and me, tonight at 11.
