New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's push to get rid of seniority protections for city teachers is reportedly getting a boost in the state senate.

A measure has been introduced that would allow the dismissal of teachers for nine reasons, including poor performance, regardless of how long they've taught.

A published report says it could pass the Republican-controlled Senate as soon as next week.

But the measure is sure to have a tougher time in the Democrat-controlled Assembly and with Governor Andrew Cuomo.
