Turnpike and Parkway prices jump 17 cents

The price of a gallon of regular gas went up 17 cents on the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway Friday.

The gas stations on the two toll roads, which are operated by Sunoco, can only change prices once a week by law.

So while other gas stations in the Garden State have been slowly hiking prices all week, the stations on the Turnpike and Parkway could not bring their prices to current market rates until Friday morning.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority surveys 100 gas stations, located off the highway, every Wednesday and Thursday to determine an average price. The service area per-gallon cost cannot be more than 3 cents above that average price.

Price changes:
Gallon of regular from $3.08 to $3.25
Gallon of middle grade from $3.22 to $3.37
Gallon of premium from $3.33 to $3.48
