State officials in New Jersey are conducting surprise inspections to make sure motorists aren't getting shortchanged at the pump with gasoline prices rising.

Weights and Measures officials cited a Delta gas station in Newark after inspectors found a pump dispensed a gallon less than it charged.

Investigators also issued a citation at a Citgo station on Tonnelle Avenue in Jersey City because a diesel pump provided slightly less fuel than was charged.

Acting Consumer Affairs Director Thomas Calcagni says in addition to checking pumps, inspectors are making sure the prices displayed on signs are what motorists are being charged.
