Eight charged in fake accident ring

BRONX

Police say the ring bilked insurance companies for tens of thousands of dollars from fake crashes.

The suspects were busted this morning and will be arraigned later today in /*Bronx Criminal Court*/.

They were caught in an investigation that started when an alert /*NYPD*/ Highway Safety Officer responded to an accident with a large number of people and minimal damage.

The highway officer tipped off detectives, who found closed circuit camera video that captured the entire staged accident.

The video showed three vehicles, each occupied by three individuals, pulling up to a business.

The vehicles then circled the block together and intentionally rear ended.

Feigning shock, the fake victims called 911 and filled out accident reports.

They then sought medical treatment for their non existent injuries at local /*Bronx*/ medical clinics.

They billed insurance companies for tens of thousands of dollars within a short period of time.
