The Verizon worker was shot in the back. He managed to drive about one block and call 911 for help.
According to police, Deans was working on a pole on Montrose Terrace.
As he came down off the pole, the young suspect tried to rob him and pointed a gun at him.
Deans, not taking the kids seriously, brushed it off. He described the suspect as a little kid who didn't know how to handle a gun.
The suspect then shot Deans and took off running.
Officers searched vacant homes for the suspect, but came up empty.
Police described the suspect as black, in his teens, wearing light colored jeans, a white hoodie and a black mask covering the lower part of his face.
