Closing arguments in NJ triple murder trial

Attorneys began closing arguments in the trial of a man charged in a triple murder in Newark.

Alexander Alfaro was 16 at the time of the killings. Jurors have heard an audiotaped statement in which Alfaro tells police he slashed one of the victims with a machete before all three were shot.

But Alfaro testified this week that a detective told him to lie about his involvement to match the version given by other defendants.

The defense told jurors that Alfaro was pressured into coming to the crime scene that night by his older brother, Rodolfo Godinez, a member of the violent MS-13 street gang.

The state disputes that theory and says Alfaro participated willingly.
