Car crashes into pole; power lines start a fire

ROSLYN HARBOR, NY

An 80-year-old woman crashed her car into a utility pole on Bryant Avenue in Roslyn Harbor.

The driver got out of the car safely, but moments later downed power lines sparked a fire.

The flames became so intense they melted the asphalt and a gas line started on fire.

Two fire departments kept the gas-fueled fire under control until the gas company shut-off the line.

Five homes were evacuated near the accident site as a precaution.
