A man accused of shoving a New York City police officer to his death during a domestic violence call has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge.

George Villanueva was arraigned in Brooklyn on Thursday. He is being held without bail in the death of Officer Alain Schaberger.

The policeman fell 9 feet and broke his neck while responding to a 911 call from Villanueva's girlfriend. She said he had threatened to kill her.

Villanueva's attorney says the officer lost his footing because he was knocked by another officer.

Prosecutors say Villanueva violated at least four restraining orders that called for him to leave his girlfriend alone. He was also indicted on charges including assault.
