Man shot and killed on Bronx sidewalk

FORDHAM HEIGHTS, The Bronx

It started as a peaceful, gorgeous day, but the Fordham neighborhood felt cloudy after neighbors heard the awful sound of gunshots, then saw a man lose his life.

/*Norman McCassling*/, 29, of /*Bridgeport*/, /*Connecticut*/ was shot in the stomach and the shoulder at the corner of /*Creston Avenue*/ and East 182nd Street in /*Fordham Heights*/ around 2:30 p.m.

"I heard about six shots," eyewitness Brandi Fry said. "Four in rapid succession. It sounded pretty loud. Everybody on the block around me said someone got shot."

Witnesses say the gunman took off running west on busy 182nd Street, while many stood frozen.

"There were huge crowds around the block. Just because of the shock. It's a beautiful day in broad daylight," Fry said.

Fry has lived here her entire life. She says she's tired of this.

"Another guy just got shot over on Burnside a couple of days ago. That's the kind of neighborhood this is. There's things you put up with. It makes me want to move from this neighborhood," Fry said.

Police are now investigating the shooting as a homicide.
