Arrests down sharply at UConn spring weekend

STORRS, Conn.

Police and university officials say the quiet Saturday night and 17 arrests over the three-day weekend, down from 84 last year, were due to recommendations by a task force intended to de-escalate the event. Guests were barred from staying in residence halls, numerous roads, parking lots and pathways were blocked and students were asked to impose a voluntary moratorium.

A man died last year after being punched at an off-campus restaurant. An East Hartford man awaits trial.

/*UConn*/ has struggled for years to end excessive Spring Weekend parties, particularly at off-campus apartment complexes.
