A volunteer firefighter in New Jersey is under arrest, accused of arson.

Prosecutors say 23-year-old Brian Alvarez set fire to an abandoned home in Upper Saddle River Monday, then called police to report the blaze.

He told them he was driving by when he noticed the fire and was among the first to battle it.

But investigators determined it was intentionally set.

Alvarez is charged with aggravated arson and burglary.
