Group removes 59 cats, 1 dog from LI house

CENTER MORICHES

The Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said the home in Center Moriches reeked of ammonia from animal urine. The woman who lived there was taken to stay with relatives on Friday.

The SPCA took some of the animals to the Brookhaven Animal Shelter and others to Save-A-Pet in Port Jefferson.

Police said the home was declared uninhabitable and was condemned. They have not filed any charges.

The discovery was reported Saturday by Newsday.
