Thousands of people are without power Friday due to the heat and thunderstorms that rolled through the area Thursday.

Connecticut is suffering the brunt of it, with more than 50,000 in the dark, statewide. That's down from around 100,000 customers at the peak of the outages.

There are more than 1,700 without power in Westchester, nearly 5,500 in Dutchess County and more than 3,300 in Putnam County.

LIPA reports 650 customers without power, while New Jersey has roughly 1,000.
