Mother arrested in 5-year-old son's death

THE BRONX

"I hit Jamar, I was so upset," prosecutors read from a police statement.

Prosecutors say 21-year-old Kim Crawford admits she struck her 5-year-old son Jamar Johnson repeatedly, because he broke the family's Wii videogame console, and when he started throwing up a few days later, she didn't call for help until it was too late.

Crawford called 911 from her second floor apartment in the Edenwald section of the Bronx last Friday saying Jamar was unconscious.

Jamar's grandmother says ACS placed the boy in her care three times because of domestic violence issues with the child's father who is not implicated in Jamar's death. There is also a 2 ½ year old daughter.

Several of Crawford's friends came to court today to support her.
