A group of thieves picked the wrong target on Long Island.

Police say four young men approached an off-duty NYPD officer as he was riding his bike home from the railroad station in Carle Place.

One of the suspects allegedly blocked the officer's path while the others tried to steal his backpack.

The officer identified himself as a cop and ordered the men to the ground, but the suspects took off.

He called 911, and the men were arrested for attempted robbery a short time later.
