LIRR back on track after tunnel fire

Service on the Long Island Rail Road is back on track after a fire caused aggravating delays during the Monday evening commute.

A fire on a third rail insulator caused heavy smoke to fill one of the East River tunnels.

The fire caused delays of up to 45 minutes.

Westbound LIRR service between Jamaica and Penn Station resumed around 7:30 p.m. after repairs were finished.
