Fireworks spectacular in NYC dazzles millions

NEW YORK

More than 40,000 shells were wired, loaded into individual casings and fired from six barges on the Hudson River.

It's been 235 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and the nation celebrated the red, white and blue Monday.

Every year, the folks at Macy's promise the fireworks will be bigger, better and more amazing than the last, and every year they deliver.

The theme of this year's show was Gift of Freedom. The theme paid a special tribute to the 125th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty, which for generations has served as a beacon of hope and freedom.

In addition to saluting the lady in the harbor, Macy's commemorated the 10th anniversary of the attacks on September 11th with a tribute in light during a soaring rendition of Amazing Grace.
