She's accused of using it to pay for her family's lavish lifestyle and for fertility treatments.
"She was a fragile person I believe she's much stronger now," Stephen Flamhaft, Hogan's attorney said.
She's a changed woman, although Providence Hogan looked clearly concerned about her past.
The disgraced former PTA member was visibly nervous as she faced a judge Monday morning.
Hogan admits, she stole roughly $82,000 from the PTA at P.S. 29 in /*Cobble Hill*/, /*Brooklyn*/ where she was a treasurer from 2006-2008.
But her lawyer says at the time, Hogan's personal life was a mess, that she was dealing with psychological and emotional issues after having several miscarriages, her husband, who was by her side Monday, had lost his job and her business which was her day spa which was in financial trouble.
But Stephen Flamhaft insists that's all behind her.
"She's stabilized in a lot of ways, treatment wise and medication wise, her husband is now working, the problems that became overwhelming have subsided. Is she remorseful for what she did? Very much so," Flamhaft said.
Concerned parents, also at the courthouse, say although they feel sorry for Hogan's family and the fact that she was desperate enough to do this, but they point out her actions shattered morale at the school.
"My own children were wondering if there was a robber going around, they were very, very, curious and confused why a parent would do something like that," said Neil Wehrle, a parent.
Hogan is trying to iron out details of a plea agreement.
She'd avoid jail time by instead making one payment of $40,000, the balance within nine months, plus interest.
"We have additional checks and balances in place that we have tightened our financial control, probably the tightest PTA in New York City right now," Natalie Giles, a parent said.
A judge is expected to make a decision in this case on August 11th.
