NJ faults courts, hotline procedure in child death

HADDONFIELD, N.J.

Children and Families Commissioner Allison Blake says the state will launch a campaign to encourage reporting of child abuse and neglect.

She says courts had information two years ago that 8-year-old /*Christiana Glenn*/ may have been subjected to abuse but did not tell the state's child welfare offices.

Blake also says that training and hiring procedures are being updated for the workers who staff a hotline that takes child abuse complaints.

An anonymous tip came in about the girl nine days before she died but was not handed off to investigators.

The girl's mother, Venette Ovilde, is charged with aggravated manslaughter.
