Same-sex couple planning lavish ceremony

NEW YORK

Julius Michael and Arturo Ortiz are planning a spring wedding, detail by detail.

"I don't want a traditional wedding cake, but I don't want it to be over the top," Julius said, while perusing wedding cake options at /*Lulu Cake Boutique*/ in Scarsdale.

This Westchester couple has a vision for their wedding; Arturo is designing their wardrobe, Jay is overseeing everything else.

"I trust him and I know he'll do a great job," said Arturo.

And they're not rushing it.

"It's going to be super glam, I can't pull it off in a month," said Julius.

Just like many straight couples, same-sex couples are also taking their time planning for their special day, and that means they're spending money on the details like cakes.

Arturo and Julius plan to wed in May, in a ceremony that will be legal and now far more significant than just icing on the cake.

"We always should have had the right. Now that we finally have it, it's a celebration," said Julius.

Julius and Arturo are inviting 300 people and are planning to be married in Armonk by a friend who is ordained. They may just go get their license though on Sunday in Westchester.
