We all know smoking and other unhealthy habits are bad for the body, but they also may cause your brain to shrink.

A UC Davis study found vascular risk factors such as smoking, obesity, diabetes and high blood may cause the brain to age up to 10 years faster.

Researchers found people with such risk factors had smaller brains and diminished brain function at middle age.

They hope to encourage people to seek treatment earlier to prevent Alzheimer's later in life.
