Letting go of your mobile device

NEW YORK

New research finds that 80% of us have one for work, play, making social connections, or just avoiding boredom. But sometimes users cross the line.

You can't go to dinner without looking around, and seeing families not even making eye contact or having a conversation with each other because everyone is on their /*smart phones*/.

The /*Pew Research Center's Internet and American Life Project*/ found that less than one third of mobile phone users take a break and turn them off. Experts say the multitasking might be stressful than you think.

While we think it is important, and we might tune into this particular piece, we are actually hurting our performance on that as well as the original thing that we were focusing on.

One week, a day, or even just an hour unplugged can make a difference. Some ideas include making the dinner table a technology-free zone or setting the Blackberry on the nightstand for the two hours while you spend time with your family.

If your own willpower isn't strong enough, some hotels will help you check out, when you check in. Guests can choose package deals that encourage them to stow devices for their stay and take advantage of various non-digital perks.
