September a big savings month

NEW YORK

But saving money in the month of September is much more than just Labor Day Sales,

Experts call it the sweet spot, new car buyers just call it sweet. It happens each September when car dealers are between model years, forced to move out last year's models. That means buyers can negotiate a deep discount on 2011 car. Best time of the day to buy is weekday mornings.

Last year's models of large appliances like washers, and dryers will also be priced to move. One tip is to look for a dented model then negotiate a bigger discount.

And seasonal items will be on sale. That means garden supplies like perennial flowers and shrubs will be bargains.

And after Hurricane Irene a glass of wine sounds fine. Early fall is when wine prices are discounted.

And September is a great month to book holiday travel. Thanksgiving is less than three months away. If you plan turkey day travel, now is a good time to buy tickets before fares go up.

Tuesday and Wednesday are the cheapest days to fly as long as it's not the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, the busiest travel day of the year.
