Gas prices rise for Labor Day weekend

TRENTON, N.J.

/*AAA Mid-Atlantic*/ says the average price of regular gasoline in /*New Jersey*/ on Friday was $3.56, up 7 cents from last week. That's also much higher than it was a year ago, when motorists were paying $2.51.

Meanwhile, the national average price rose for the first time in four weeks, going up 6 cents to $3.65. That's also much higher than the national average from a year ago, which was $2.68.

The rising pump prices come as roughly 27.3 million Americans - including 828,000 New Jersey residents - take to the roads for the /*Labor Day*/ holiday weekend.
