This blood drive has been so popular in the Muslim community; organizers say there were not enough Red Cross buses to go around.
"I feel like this is a very good way to spend the day," said Jane Susswein, a Montclair resident.
It is how dozens of people of all faiths spent the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
"The Muslim community is having a drive, an occasion to give," Susswein said.
It was the first year of the Muslims for Life Red Cross blood drive at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Mosque in Clifton, New Jersey.
"We American Muslims, saving American lives, what a good idea," said Dr. Samiullah Chaundhary, Ahmadiyya Muslim community.
There were 250 blood drives held by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community across the country on September 11th. The goal in North Jersey is to collect 200 bags, nationwide the goal is 10,000.
10,000 bags can save 30,000 lives.
"We are planning on 30,000 and that makes me proud," Dr. Chaundhary said.
Ahmadiyya hopes to host the blood drive every year on 9/11.
