The Centers for Disease Control is stressing the importance of newborn screenings.

They are tests done before a baby leaves the hospital can help identify certain disorders early on, so they're treated before becoming major problems.

Among the things newborns should be tested for are hearing loss and jaundice.

Some tests are routine, but others you may need to ask for, so check with your doctor.
