More relief ahead for Port Jervis Line customers

NEW YORK

Portions of rail bed were completely washed away.

Sections of track were twisted by raging flood waters.

Service on the entire Port Jervis line has been suspended.

Amir Ghanni has seen his commute to the city stretch to four hours each way.

14 miles between Harriman and Suffern suffered the worst damage.

Thursday Metro-North announced the slightest bit of relief.

Starting Monday, limited service will resume.

During peak hours trains will run between Port Jervis and Harriman.

The number of buses ferrying passengers from Harriman to Ramsey, New Jersey will increase to 60.

New Jersey Transit will add a number of semi-express trains using Metro-North cars to Secaucus, Hoboken and Penn Station.

Over 100,000 tons of gravel is being shipped in to shore up sections of track.

One two-mile stretch in Sloatsburg will have to be completely rebuilt.

Metro-North officials say it's still too early to know when repairs might be complete, but it will likely take months.

That means many more long days ahead for upstate commuters.
