OEM: Irene likely NJ's most expensive emergency

NEWARK, N.J.

Spokeswoman Mary Goepfert says more than $67 million in disaster funding has been approved for individuals as of Thursday.

More than $63 million of that is for housing-related assistance including rentals, home repairs or replacement of essential items not covered by insurance.

Storm-affected residents can still sign up for assistance with FEMA.

Goepfert says 42,310 people had registered with FEMA as of Thursday, and she expects that number to increase.

Damage assessments for infrastructure and public works are not yet completed.
