Time's up for NYC's single-space parking meters

NEW YORK

The New York Times reports the city will remove the last single-space parking meter in Manhattan on Monday.

It's part of a process to convert the whole city to the Muni-Meter system, where drivers get receipts from a solar-powered machine to place on their dashboards.

The city Department of Transportation says the new meters are an improvement because they take credit cards and require less maintenance.

A few of the old poles will remain behind. They'll have their so-called "brains" removed and then they'll be converted to bike racks.
