Metro-North to make quiet cars permanent fixture

Metro-North's experiment with its Q, or quiet, cars will be expanding.

Starting in mid-October, 36 rush-hour trains on the Harlem and Hudson lines will have one car for riders who want a trip free of cell phones and other loud distractions.

The original pilot program, on the Port Jervis and Passaic Valley lines, has been such a success that it's being made permanent.
