A New York group has unveiled a memorial to 11 Israeli athletes and coaches massacred at the 1972 Olympics.

The JCC of Rockland unveiled the 8-foot-tall stainless steel abstract Olympic torch on Sunday. The memorial to the "Munich 11" is inscribed with their names.

The JCC will host the Olympic-style JCC Maccabi Games next summer.

The JCC say it's trying to show solidarity with the families of the Munich 11, who have lobbied unsuccessfully for 39 years for an Olympic moment of silence for the Munich 11.

The families hope that recognition will come at the London Olympics in 2012. The games will mark the 40th anniversary of the attack by a Palestinian terrorist group.
