According to investigators, the three men were trying to steal motorcycles on River Road using a stolen van when officers spotted them.
The suspects took off, but lost control of the van at Washington and Satterthwaite. The van hit the lawn of a home, went airbone, struck the house and landed on top of a car parked in a driveway.
The three then jumped from the van and tried to run away on foot, police said.
One was captured, but the other two remained at large late Thursday morning.
The suspect in custody, 18 year old Anthony Olivo from Paterson, was found hiding in a shed a few houses from where the accident happened.
He is charged with possession of stolen property and attempted theft.
The house sustained damage, which was still being assessed.
