American al-Qaida member had Long Island ties

GARDEN CITY

Rep. Peter King said that 25-year-old Samir Khan was not the original target of investigators.

King says Khan "came on their radar" between 2007 and 2009 when he was seen meeting with two terror suspects on Long Island.

King says those two are still being watched.

Khan had lived on Long Island for about a decade before moving to North Carolina in 2004.

Khan was killed last week in a U.S. airstrike in Yemen. He was traveling with American-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, described as a leader of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula.
