New York City police say a sergeant avoided getting shot at close range Saturday morning in Brooklyn by sticking his finger into a suspect's gun.

Investigators say the sergeant was trying to arrest a man in Bedford-Stuyvesant when the suspect pressed this loaded gun against his stomach.

As the suspect pulled the trigger, the sergeant wedged his finger between the gun's hammer and cylinder to stop it from firing.

Eugene Graves, 30, now faces numerous charges including attempted murder of a police officer.
