Study: Red-light cameras reduce crashes on LI

Red-light cameras are being credited with reducing accidents on Long Island.

Nassau County has produced a report on 12 months of camera use at 40 intersections.

Newsday reports the study shows an 11 percent drop in head-on crashes, a 30 percent decline in side-impact crashes and a 6 percent drop in rear-end collisions.

But there was an 86 percent increase in crashes at the Old Country Road and Ring Road entrance to the Roosevelt Field Mall.
