Cuomo names former Giuliani official as MTA chief

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he'll nominate former New York City deputy mayor Joseph J. Lhota to serve as chairman and CEO of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Cuomo made the announcement Thursday.

Lhota served as deputy mayor for operations under Mayor Rudy Giuliani. He oversaw day-to-day management of the city, and supervised city agencies.

He currently serves as the executive vice president, administration for The Madison Square Garden Company.
