TLC warns cabs against abusive honking

NEW YORK

But in an effort to bring a quieter quality of life to New Yorkers, the Taxi and Limousine Commission today began warning cab drivers to stop leaning on their horns and to use them only for emergencies, not for moments of frustration nor to push traffic along.

But breaking honking habits may be easier said than done, even though honking is already illegal in the city for all drivers and comes with a $350 fine if caught.

The TLC will start enforcing that law more aggressively and is hoping that it will at least get drivers to turn down the volume of their honking.
