Do-it-yourself cervical cancer test

A do-it-yourself test for cervical cancer is showing promise after proving safe and effective in a trial study.

The test detects HPV the virus that causes virtually all cases of cervical cancer.

A woman at home takes the sample and it is then assessed by an automated system.

The kit will mostly benefit women who live in countries where regular Pap smear testing is difficult or impossible to get.

Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women worldwide.
